After being fired from his job without cause and being portrayed as having fled, local media reported that the Saudi Court of Appeal had given an expatriate worker compensation of 180,000 Saudi Riyals (about Rs 38,87,264).

The foreigner filed a complaint against the company where he worked, alleging that it fired him arbitrarily and withheld his salary owing to a false report, and he sought compensation in the amount of one million riyals (Rs 2,16,00,473).

The plaintiff claimed in his appeal to the Court of Appeal that he had been jobless for 22 months and had been unable to switch sponsorship or renew his residency permit (iqama) ever since the date on which the employer had filed the malicious absence report.
