The World Cup opening ceremony features Morgan Freeman and Qatari YouTuber Ghanim Al Muftah, a politics student at Loughborough University who was born without the lower part of his body.

At the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 opening ceremony on Sunday, Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman shared a message of optimism, harmony, and tolerance.

Ghanim Al Muftah, a role model for Qatari youth, appeared on stage with Freeman. Muftah, a FIFA World Cup ambassador, recited verses from the Quran to spread the message of tolerance and diversity. Twin brother Ghanim Al Muftah was born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, a rare condition that prevents the lower spine from developing normally.

Al Muftah, who is well-known for his inspirational talks and active social media presence, spoke on the TEDxQatarUniversity stage in 2018 at the age of 16 to discuss the caudal regression syndrome that he has. The development of the bottom half of the body, including the spine, limbs, bladder, intestines, and gut, is impacted by caudal.

Doctors had given him very little chance of surviving, yet he has managed to live until the age of fifteen. By serving as a prominent and outstanding example for young people and disabled people throughout the world, his tale has amazed and inspired many. Muftah obtains top surgical care every year in Europe.

The future paralympian is his goal. Ghanim lists swimming, scuba diving, football, hiking, and skateboarding as his favorite sports despite his limitations. Muftah used to chase after the ball with his “normal-sized” friends while playing football at school while sporting shoes on his hands. The highest mountain peak in the Gulf, Jebel Shams, was scaled by him. He plans to ascend Mount Everest.
